By day, we walk in green and grey
By night, we walk in sorrow
We watch the people of the day
We travel in their shadow.
The daylight folk, they dance and sing
The daylight folk are golden.
But our folk serve the Winter King
To none are we beholden.
We are the humble and the poor
We live in heath and heather
Our castle is the windy moor
Our crown, the black crow’s feather.
But on All Hallow’s Eve we’ll go
A-roaming, and make merry,
And you’ll be Queen of Fiddler’s Green
And I’ll be King of Faerie.
We are the fox, we are the crow
The corncrake and the raven
We are the hare, the wolf, the doe
The heather and the hawthorn.
We walk among you, all unseen
In stolen rags and feathers
We fly into the open sky
In every kind of weather.
And when the daylight folk pass by
They never see or hear us
But shiver, without knowing why
They so disdain and fear us.
But on All Hallow’s Eve we’ll go
A-roaming, and make merry,
And you’ll be Queen of Fiddler’s Green
And I’ll be King of Faerie;
And on All Hallow’s Eve you’ll see
Our folk in all their glory
The kings and queens of Fiddler’s Green
The ranks of October’s army.

I gave to you the rainbow month
This month of lakes and rivers
I gave to you the rosy month
Or starlight and of lovers
I gave to you the flower month
This month of new beginnings
I gave to you the golden month
The month of bees and lacewings
And will you take this dance, this dance
This dance of the seasons, this dance of the days?
And will you take this dance, this dance?
I say: I will: you say: I may.
I give to you the icy month
The lover man with two faces,
I give to you the windy month
That through the treetops races
I give to you the whirling month
This month of snow and sorrow
I give to you the harvest month
Of ravens and of swallows
And will you take this dance, this dance
This dance that is older than mountains or sea?
And will you take this dance, this dance,
And will you take this dance with me?
I give to you the darkest month
This graveyard month, December
I give to you the darkest month
So that you may remember
And now the year is over, and
The dance has come full circle.
We take our places once again
With you now in the middle.
And will you take this dance, this dance
This dance that reaches so very far?
And will you take this dance, this dance,
That mirrors the dance of the circling stars?
